Stardub 5 – BLOODHUNT!!!

So we kick off our fifth episode with our third dalliance with the Canon film franchise of franchises – American Ninja. This time it’s American Ninja III – BLOODHUNT! We get a new American Ninja, sorry new The American Ninja and he is on an island (of course he is) squaring off against a man who is determined to do something about inefficient hijacking. Fret not Curtis Jackson is still here.

Following the cinematic masterclass we return to the world of literature. Ralph Reads Star Trek sees us turn our attention to an exciting new trilogy of novels -  Star Trek: Prometheus. The first book Fire with Fire by Bernd Perplies and Christian Humberg. Where according to the cover blurb a mysterious terrorist organization has carried out several attacks against the Federation and Klingon Empire. Tensions are running high in a region already crippled by conflict. The perpetrators are tracked to the Lembatta Cluster, a mysterious region of space whose inhabitants, the Renao, regard the the Alpha Quadrant’s powers as little more than conquering tyrants. The Federation are desperate to prevent more bloodshed, and have sent their most powerful warship, the U.S.S. Prometheus, into the Cluster to investigate the threat before all-consuming war breaks out.

Uncanny Oxfam and Ebay Gum take a rest this episode as we dip our feet into the murky waters of Doctor Who spin-offs. No, not the books, or DWM. We speak of the filmed Doctor Who spin-offs from BBV video and take a look at The Airzone Solution – written by Nicholas Briggs and directed by Bill Baggs. Starring Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy and Jon Pertwee.  What did Andy think of it, as he had never seen it and more importantly what did Susie the dog think of it?

Listen on and find out.

Stardub – Readers Lives: The Game of Rassilon 2

A slight break from the norm with this epsiode we recorded before Christmas. The main focus of the show is The Game of Rassilon 2. Ten random gifts for the podcast hosts to share who will triumph? Remember though, he who wins shall lose, and he who loses shall win. Aided by the Coronets of Rassilon our intrepid hosts confront these mystery items.

The Uncanny Oxfam takes a break to be replaced by Ebay Gum – as Andy gives us the rundown on the Warlock mini-series from 2004 and all the lovely adverts within.

Ralph Reads Star Trek sees an onslaught to the senses as we go back to the 50th or 52nd anniversary of Star Trek (if you go by either Broadcast or Filmed date) and look at the novel trilogy Star Trek: Legacies and the Transfer Key held by every Captain of the Enterprise, because having a powerful artefact on a ship that is generally furthest from support on the fringes of known space is always a good idea. Rounding out the episode we look at the first comic tie-in to Star Trek: Discovery The Light of Kahless.

Stardub 3 – Thunder of Gigantic Serpent

THUNDER OF GIGANTIC SERPENT!!!

Kicking off the episode Ralph and Andy discuss the recently released Dalek book, a history of the Daleks both from an in-universe perspective as well as in the real world. The Daleks were created by Terry Nation AND Ray Cusick, despite what the book says!  Credits being something of an issue with the Dalek book, as in the contents page it credits the writers (no credits for the rest of the talented folks who do the comic strips that pepper the book), poor show publishers. A literature heavy episode as from there the team move on to The Uncanny Oxfam – and boy is it uncanny with the 1996 X-Men annual from Marvel Comics UK, and the Marvel Graphic Novel – Pryde of the X-Men coming under the microscope. Ralph Reads Star Trek sees him try to justifyStar Trek Deep Space Nine – Original Sin by David R George III with the return of The Sisko and various Dyson objects. A monster movie cut and shut – the classic that is Thunder of Gigantic Serpent from Joseph Lai rounds out the episode.

WARNING: This episode once again contains attempted accents by one of the team. These are not offensive, given that these are no accents any other human being has ever uttered but we appreciate it can be distressing. Rest assured, it is more distressing being in the room when these happen. Trust me.

Stardub 2 – The Confrontation

We’re back with Stardub 2 – The Confrontation.

As promised the team regale you with their thoughts on the classic that is American Ninja 2 – The Confrontation. After that in The Uncanny Oxfam – a whole host of comics were mentioned, but only one deemed worthy of discussion. Now a picture is worth a thousand words so without comment or context:

After some choice words on these pages and the rest of the above comic we move on to Ralph Reads Star Trek. This episode he takes a look at Star Trek: Discovery by David Mack. The first tie-in to the new series.

We round out the episode with a look at a film that Mattel actually managed to get to the big screen – sort of. That’s right MAX STEEL! No really, there was a proper Max Steel film, with actors and everything! Was it any good…well listen and find out.

Stardub Discovery

It’s been far too long since the Stardub team inflicted their usual rantings about whatever random things take their fancy (not to mention sizeable chunks of their income) but we’re back baby!

So what delights await within Stardub Discovery you ask?

Well the valuable opinion of two grown men on the Transformers BusyBook for pre-school children – THRILLING!

A potted history of Star Trek tie-ins as a gentle lead into RALPH READS STAR TREK! (You may want a lie down and a cup of tea after this one) – INTENSE!

A random comic acquired from a well-known charitable shop in Edinburgh as part of THE UNCANNY OXFAM which will form a watery dagger into the hearts of fans of Marvel’s First Mutant. IMPERIOUS REX!

Download and enjoy.
